Has anyone read anything by the new WoT author? If he needs three novels to finish the story, I'd like to know if he's a decent writer at all. I'm considering buying his "Mistborn" trilogy because I have a B&N gift card and nothing else I want at the moment. Yay/Nay?

So excited about this, thou I don't have HBO.

"HBO has given the production order.
They will be filming the pilot episode of A GAME OF THRONES.
It's just the pilot so far. They'll need to see that before they decide whether to proceed with a full season's episodes. So let's all hope the pilot will kick serious ass.
It should. David Benioff and Dan Weiss did a terrific job with the script. And yes, all of you can relax, it's very faithful....

So I was flipping around channels last night looking for something to watch, when I passed wgn and saw a guy holding a sword. Then a skinny middle aged man said to a woman, "He has the sword, and the book just like you wanted." and "Someone must have followed you through the barrier." I don't know how many serious readers we have around here anymore, but I recently picked this book up at the library. I enjoyed it a ton. I'm pissed now that I seem to have gotten into another series that is just starting out. Seeing as how Dart Tower is over and Wheel will be ending soon, I think I have room for this one thou. Don't let the reviews that compare it to Harry Potter dissuade you, it is not a young adult type of book.

skimmed thru it. looks messy but intriguing(sp?). authors half-heartedly trying to explain physics and natural science in layman terms and relate them to the wizards and weirdness of discworld. absurd?

So, I finished the first cycle of books--the two Magicians, Silverthorn, and Sethanon--years ago, and I really enjoyed them.

Magician presented a different view a magic that I wasn't familiar with at the time. Silverthorn got Arutha, my favorite of the secondary characters, right up there in front. Sethanon was a worthwhile end to the story. So, I reread them all recently, realized that, by God, they were pretty good books! Then I start looking around.

I really enjoyed the last book. It was full of action, and was not as predictable as I thought it would be. I have only read through ther series once so I am not going to try to go into great depth, but I can say that the series was not a waist of time read.

I would describe this woman as the best new fantasy writer around. Easily on par with George R. R. Martin and Robert Jordan (though, to be fair, whilst her first series is brilliant, it suffered heavy influence from the publishers).

And i met her tonight. *sigh* I am in love. This woman is brilliant, funny, sarcastic, deeply evil and any of a number of other personality traits that i respect.

You see, i went to a signing, we hit it off, and ended up getting drinks and discussing...

This has doubtless been discussed more times than I care to think about, and I've probably mentioned it already, but does anyone else care for the idea that Jaquen Hagar and Syrio are one in the same?

I just reread the books, and it seems even more possible now. After all: how the hell did he end up in the dungeon if he's one of the world's great assassins?

In Orson Scott Cards later books, Bean stated that he is not of the human race anymore. He was wrong in saying that since he is still able to reproduce with a normal Homo Sapien (Petra). If he were a different race he would not have been able to do this. So is is just a subspecies of Homo Sapiens.
